Flash Earn Two Big Wins Over Rose Tree and Coventry

Nov. 11, 2018 -- What a difference a day makes. Playing with an enthusiasm previously unknown to mankind, the Flash came out strong with two victories Sunday, 4-0 over the Rose Tree SC Thunder and 2-1 against the Coventry SA Sharks.

After a lackluster effort Saturday in a loss to Lower Merion, Methacton United was back in action with a doubleheader on the turf at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken. And prove themselves is exactly what the Flash did.

Against Rose Tree SC, the Flash got on the board first with some smart passing. Colin started the play with a pass to Brendan on the outside. Brendan moved the ball to Tyler in the corner, who crossed to Kenny. Kenny’s initial shot hit the goalie, and he knocked in the rebound.

Later in the first half, Jaxon made an awesome leaping save to rob Rose Tree of a certain goal and maintain the shutout.

The Flash got their second goal early in the second half when Chase made a sweet pass up the wing to Tyler, who fired a shot that banked in off a defender. Kenny tallied his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute, with a rocket shot off a pass from Cody. Later, Cody nearly had a goal of his own as his hard shot just missed.

Brendan completed the scoring for the Flash on a breakaway, as he played the ball upfield, outraced a defender, and slid the ball under the goalie and into the corner of the net.

Colin was flying around the turf all day, including racing back toward the Flash goal from midfield to deny a Rose Tree breakaway. Jaxon and Aidan combined for the clean sheet for the Flash.

In the second game, the Flash scored first once again, as Charlie collected a corner kick from Colin at the top of the 18 and lofted a shot over the Coventry goalie’s head.

The Flash escaped to halftime with the 1-0 lead, surviving an offensive onslaught from Coventry and at one point denying five consecutive corner kicks.

As Coventry continued the attack early in the second half, Aidan made an incredible, game-saving, diving stop on a 1-on-none breakaway. If not for that save, the Flash may have had to settle for a tie.

Coventry briefly evened the score at 1-1, but the Flash took the lead right back. Avinash took a throw-in from Tyler and put a shot on goal. With Brendan and Jaxon crashing the net, it was Brendan who banged home the rebound to put Methacton United up 2-1. After peppering the Rose Tree goalie with numerous shots in the first game, Tyler nearly added a goal against Coventry with a strong shot that went just wide.

Grayson, Connor and Joey anchored the defense in both games and played a big role in the wins. Sometimes it’s not glamorous, but it takes a full team effort to win on the pitch, and the Flash’s defense got the job done today.

The wins evened the Flash’s Central league record at 3-3-1. Interestingly, the Flash are particularly unstoppable when they play more then one game in a day. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the Flash improved to 7-2-0 when they play multiple games on the same day.
